Hmmmm... As much I loved Carlton for his effort, his decision making and thinking about the game, which you'd think is key for a role like this, isn't what I'd put down as his strongest attributes.

Always liked Carlton, bit of a larakin and enjoys a laugh but not sure i would want him mentoring the kids?
Good luck to him though, hes got some experiences in what not to do! So could be good at it, assuming he is mature enough these days..........

Was always a credit to the club off of the pitch, so am guessing that's more where they're going than anything else.

Hadn't he started to mentor young players about basically not being twats with their money etc? If he's actually any good at it then it could be a great appointment.

Carlton was always ready to laugh at himself, which some people found very irritating.
They have a bit of a point, because if he was harder on himself he might have fulfilled more of his potential

I can think of plenty worse.
But not many who should've been so much better than they actually turned out to be.
He was only a kid when he was with Chelsea, but he's just behind Zola in their goals per minute played stat.

A player that spent almost his entire career at the top level is a bad choice to mentor kids?
So many on here are embarrassing and are probably the reason WHO is slowly dying.
Feted as a superstar at Chelsea when he was a teenager and then not quite fulfilling it, yet to still get 7 caps for England, is an achievement in anyone's books.
To spunk away millions, ending in bankruptcy isn't a great example but he would have learned from the mistakes he made like we all did when we were in our 20s and 30s.
